Perché l'henné NON copre i capelli bianchi? Ecco cosa stai sbagliando!

Covering Gray Hair Naturally with Henna seems impossible? Here's what you do wrong!

If you think covering gray hair naturally with henna is impossible, either because you heard it from someone, or because you tried yourself henna with unsatisfying results, you are most probably doing something wrong.

I bet you are already wondering what that might be.

Henna may not cover gray hair because:

1. You're using cheap quality henna / herbal hair colors.

One of the main reasons henna doesn't cover gray hair perfectly is that the henna quality you're using isn't one of the best. But how do you figure out if your henna is good quality or not?

From both the coverage / color you obtain on your gray hair and the consistency of the henna mix: if it falls in little pieces while applying it, it's likely that your henna may have been cut with sand. Bulk henna usually gives this kind of problems but it's not the only case...

If you use high quality herbal hair colors, the consistency of your henna mix should have the consistency of a yoghurt and you should be able to apply it and rinse it out very easily. You can see in the video below which is the ideal consistency of a henna mix.

2. You're using a pre-made, ready-to-use herbal hair dye mix

Another mistake I often see in the emails you send me, is that one wants to cover gray hair using a pre-made, ready to use henna and herbal hair colors mix.

There's nothing more wrong than that! I talked thoroughly about this in this article I suggest you to read: Does Brown Henna EXIST? How to mix herbal hair colors to dye your grey hair brown without any hints of red!

3. Do you apply your henna mix on dirty or clean hair?

This particular aspect can make the difference if you want to dye your gray hair with henna.

It's very subjective, but, since you're dedicating a big part of your day (the time required to apply it on your hair and the time you have to keep the henna on), it's better to remove any doubts you may have about what might interfere with the color release.

I talked about this in the following video:

4. You add to your mix other than water and the recommended ingredients.

Another thing that might interfere with the color release on your hair, is what you add to your henna and herbal hair dyes mix.

5. You let the henna mix sit for an inadequate period of time

Some of you wrote me that you were disappointed of the results on your grey / white hair letting the henna mix sit on your hair for just one hour.

Since the herbal hair colors - I speak specifically of Beautilicious Delights herbal hair colors - are 100% natural, in order to obtain a perfect coverage of gray hair, you need to let the mix sit on your hair for at least 3 - 4 hours.

Three hours if you want to do the 2 step application, three hours at least if you are doing the 1 step application.

If you want to find out more about how long you should keep the henna mix on and about how often you may apply henna, you can watch the below video in which I answered these questions:

6. The percentages of henna and herbal hair colors you used in your mix are not right for dyeing your gray hair perfectly

The main reason why henna does not cover gray hair perfectly is because the percentages of herbal hair colors and henna you use in your mix are not right for your type of hair.

Don't know how to calculate the percentages in your henna mix? The video down below will help you:

You can't dye your hair perfectly if you add herbal hair colors to your mix by guessing the amount you should use or by simply measuring them with a spoon... I talked thoroughly about the percentages you should use in the following article: Dye your Gray Hair Chocolate Brown using Henna & Herbal Hair Colors! Henna Hair Dye BEFORE & AFTER Pics.

7. You use in your daily hair care routine hair products that contain silicones

The last but not least cause that can interfere with the color release and the coverage of gray hair is related to the products you use in your hair care routine.

What do I mean? If you use in your daily hair care routine products with silicones, then the hair color you obtain after the henna application and the coverage of gray hair may be less satisfying. I talked about silicones in this article: Silicones in hair care products: What are they? What do they do?

And, if you already knew everything about what silicones do to our hair and you want to detox your hair from silicones but you don't know where to start, I suggest you to read this blog post: How to Detox Hair from Silicones.
